Healthy masculinity, gender equality and respectful behaviour are at the core of Sports Central’s recently launched ‘Allies in Sport’ project.
Sports Central are seeking women’s perspective in their effort to mobilise men in club leadership roles across Ballarat to help create safer, more inclusive sporting environments. Recognising the importance in centring the experiences of women in the Allies in Sport project, Sports Central are encouraging women in sport to nominate male allies who have been actively supportive in their sporting growth, success and leadership.
The Allies in Sport initiative recognises the important role community sport plays in shaping attitudes and behaviours. However, gender inequality and gendered violence remain persistent challenges.
Allies in Sport will provide tailored education, support and forums for men in club leadership roles, equipping them to foster inclusive environments and reduce barriers for women and girls to participate, coach and lead within their clubs.
With expertise and support from the project’s partners, Sports Central’s Allies in Sport initiative will be engaging:
- Women’s Health Grampians to deliver tailored gender-inclusive workshops, training and forums.
- Basketball Ballarat to actively participate as the project’s key sporting partner, providing access to facilities, clubs and coaches to support program delivery.
- La Trobe University to contribute research capability and evidence-based insights across coaching, sport development and gender equity.
- Respect Victoria, as a funder and supporter of the project, to continue to provide expert guidance.
