Due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak, the City of Ballarat and Sports Central made the decision to postpone the Sons of the West program, which was scheduled to commence on Wednesday 18th March at Phoenix P-12 Community College. Subsequent to our decision, the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation have announced the postponement of all Sons of the West programs.
Below is a statement from the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation.
Due to the rapidly changing landscape of the recent COVID-19 outbreak and ensuring that the health of our community remains our number one priority, we have unfortunately had to make the difficult decision to postpone the Sons of the West program. The program will be postponed for at least 12 weeks (at minimum end of June). Our goal is to work with program partners to deliver the Sons of the West program again when we can safely include all members of the community. We will keep you updated.
We recognize these are challenging times for our community and this decision has come from guidelines from our government as well as input from the club, staff, participants and program delivery partners. This decision has not been made lightly and is without a doubt in the best interests of our participants. While the Western Bulldogs Community Foundation’s mission is to create experiences that connect and inspire our people and community, we can only achieve this by providing the safest possible environment, and putting the wellbeing of our community at the core of our decision making.
Nothing is more important than protecting the health and wellbeing of our staff, participants and the broader community. We firmly believe this will aid in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 and provide our health services with the best possible chance to protect and treat those within our community.
Through the delivery of the Sons of the West program, we have seen firsthand the happiness and a sense of connection this program brings to our community and while the program has been postponed, it is important we stay connected and look out for one another. We encourage you to pick up the phone, call a fellow Sons of the West mate, call a loved one or friend and check in on those around you to see if they are okay.
Keep those healthy habits up! By eating well, exercising and drinking plenty of water.
