Leading from the Front – Alcohol & Other Drugs Safety

Launching in 2022, Leading from the Front is a community sport health promotion initiative. Led by Sports Central, the initiative aims to raise awareness of health, safety and wellbeing issues across the Central Highlands.

The health area of focus for this year’s Leading from the Front project is ‘Alcohol and Other Drugs Safety – We All Win’. Delivered in partnership with Ballarat Community Health, the program will build the knowledge and capacity of leading sporting clubs to prevent the use of illicit drugs through policy development, minimise the harm of alcohol and other drugs within our communities through education and support, and develop an understanding of how to respond to concerns.

Sporting clubs play an integral role in the health of the community and Sports Central look forward to delivering this important project with participating clubs.  

With our support, participating clubs will:

• Develop a Good Sports – Tackling Illegal Drugs Policy and update their Good Sports Club Accreditation (if required)
• Participate in alcohol and other drugs primary prevention training tailored to the needs of club leaders, with the content delivered by Ballarat Community Health
• Host an alcohol and other drugs prevention and harm minimisation presentation for members, players and parents, with the content delivered by Ballarat Community Health
• Receive a tailored social media campaign
• Have access to Responsible Service of Alcohol training tailored to sports club environments (see dates available)
• Host a Leading from the Front Round to launch their new Good Sports – Tackling Illegal Drugs Policy
