The Victorian Government’s Get Active Kids Voucher Program provides financial assistance to eligible Victorian children and young people, helping families cover the costs of sport and active recreation activities. By reducing the financial barrier to participation, the program encourages children to either re-engage with or try new activities for the first time.
Since 2020, the program has been instrumental in supporting families experiencing financial pressures, distributing 115,000 vouchers to date. Each voucher is valued up to $200 per child and can be used to cover eligible costs such as membership and registration fees for organised sports and recreational activities.
Community sport and active recreation play a crucial role in fostering health, wellbeing, and social connections. Evidence consistently shows that regular physical activity has profound benefits for both physical and mental health.
Participation in physical activity from an early age is essential for developing fundamental movement skills and establishing lifelong healthy habits. Early engagement in sport sets children on a path to happier and healthier lives.
However, many Victorian families face barriers to participation due to low incomes or living in areas of socio-economic disadvantage. This program helps to bridge the gap, improving both individual health outcomes and community connection.
