Men as Allies in Sport
Promote inclusion.
Lead change.
Support women and girls in sport.
In partnership with Respect Victoria, Women’s Health Grampians, La Trobe University and Basketball Ballarat, Sports Central is proud to launch the Allies in Sport initiative. Designed to promote healthy masculinity, gender equality and respectful behaviour, Allies in Sport will mobilise men in club leadership roles across Ballarat to help create safer, more inclusive sporting environments.
“Male allies have the opportunity and responsibility to lead culture through respect, inclusion and action.” – Daniel Sutton, Coaching Director, Basketball Ballarat
The initiative recognises the important role community sport plays in shaping attitudes and behaviours. However, gender inequality and gendered violence remain persistent challenges.
Allies in Sport will provide tailored education, support and forums for men in club leadership roles, equipping them to foster inclusive environments and reduce barriers for women and girls to participate, coach and lead within their clubs.
The first stage of the project will call on men in leadership roles across Ballarat’s sporting community to participate in education sessions and workshops and help co-design practical approaches to inclusive leadership and gender-responsive coaching.
Men in club leadership roles in Ballarat are invited to nominate to take an active role in the project by completing the online expression of interest form below or by contacting Sports Central for further information.
