Member Protection Information Officer Training

Sport and Recreation Victoria (SRV) is funding and supporting the delivery of MPIO Training workshops for State Sporting Associations and Victorian club administrators at no cost.

What is Member Protection?
Member protection supports sporting organisations and their players, administrators, coaches, officials and referees in participating in activities in an environment that is free from inappropriate behaviours such as harassment, discrimination, vilification and abuse.
The well-being of every member of an organisation is integral to the future growth of sport. As sporting organisations face increasing challenges (such as the decline in volunteers) the need to explore practices and procedures to assist in creating safe, welcoming and enjoyable environments is becoming even more important.

Member Protection Information Officers (MPIO)
A Member Protection Information Officer (MPIO) provides information about the rights, responsibilities and options available to an individual on making a complaint within a sporting environment. MPIOs are impartial and don’t mediate or investigate complaints, but provide assistance and information on where a complaint can be lodged and how it can be managed.

MPIO Training
The MPIO certification requires the completion of two training components. The first is a series of online modules via Play by the Rules and the second is attendance at an MPIO face-to-face workshop.
The MPIO Training face-to-face workshops will provide attendees with the knowledge, skills and tools to create safer, fairer and more inclusive environments for all people involved in their sport.
