Meet Sharon a This Girl Can Local Champion
Meet Sharon. Mother & wife. Health educator for children, Rock Up-Netballer, Dragon Boat racer. Showing women how you can get active and taking the time out for yourself by exploring what’s on offer in Ballarat!
Sharon is a mother who loves her daughter, husband and role as a program facilitator at Life Education. Although Sharon has spent her time dedicated to caring and educating others, she decided her own health needed to be a priority as well. Facing the challenge of balancing parental and work responsibilities and wanting to be a role model for her daughter, Sharon decided to try Rock Up Netball. Rock Up Netball is a social modified version of Netball designed to have a flexible or causal commitment and focus on the fun, rather than a competitive element. Flexible participation is key for Sharon, as she also participates in Dragon Boat racing and enjoys swimming.
Sharon is committed to and loves her sports and physical activity because of the fun and friendships she has developed along her way. Sharon expressed, “I wanted to model to my daughter that a healthy active life is important”.
Sharon offered this advice for other women and girls; “Go out there and have a go. You’ll have fun, make friends and feel great. Try different things – you’ll end up finding your tribe and be on track for a happier and healthier you.”
