Meet Rebecca, a This Girl Can local champion

Meet Rebecca. Full-Time Bank Officer. Animal lover. Sister. Gym Junkie and This Girl Can Local Champion. Showing women & girls that friendship can be a great source of motivation to get active!

‘This Girl Can – Vic’ is a campaign designed to celebrate and support Victorian women and girls like Rebecca, who is embracing physical activity in her everyday life.

With a full-time workload as a Bank Officer with lots of travel around Ballarat and the Central Highlands, Rebecca’s doesn’t have much spare time up her sleeve. Her weekends are normally spent with her two playful dogs, friends and the outdoors. A shift in lifestyle and location has seen Rebecca’s normal recreational activities of choice such as camping and fishing slightly change. With this change has come new friends and new opportunities. Rebecca was inspired by her new co-worker and friend to take up gym activities and has found going to the gym fits more easily into her work-life balance, especially when her friend has already scheduled consistent gym evening into her calendar. Her friend really pushes her to do her best and they both help to motivate each other to attend the gym after a long work day. Rebecca finds the positive influence of her friend gets her off the couch and being active. She said sometimes it turns into a “friendly one on one female competition.” Now a year later, Rebecca feels good about seeing the changes in herself physically and mentally. However, Rebecca said, “Just making it through each week work out is its own reward”.

After attending The This Girl Can Come & Try Day on the 18th March, Rebecca had the chance to hear more stories from other women that inspire her to further break her comfort zone and hopefully try some new social modified sports in future, such as Switch (Touch Football) or Rock Up Netball.

Rebecca offers this advice for other women and girls…” Grab a friend and motivate each other and don’t give up. Think, do, be positive.”
