Meet Kelsey, a This Girl Can local champion

Meet Kelsey. Age 65. CrossFit Fanatic. Cleaner and Carer. Cyclist and a This Girl Can Local Champion. Showing ladies they can be physically active regardless of what stage of life they are at!

‘This Girl Can – Vic’ is a campaign designed to celebrate and support Victorian women and girls like Kelsey, who is embracing physical activity in her everyday life.

“I was sick of being a couch potato”, Kelsey explained in reflection on what started her change to become more physically active in her lifestyle. 10 years on, Kelsey has now been a long time member of a CrossFit club and has been awarded for her commitment to her club. One particular inspiration and motivation for Kelsey is one of her female trainers, aged 76. Kelsey hopes to follow in her trainers  footsteps and be a role model to women and girls within her CrossFit club and the wider community. Kelsey would like to show women and girls that no matter what level or age you are; you CAN do it. Kelsey herself had some physical barriers that she had to overcome to continue her sports, but she wants to let other females know that it’s a matter of adjusting your physical activity to suit your ability and time.

From her CrossFit, Kelsey tried a free boot camp session, where she meets a like-minded lady who encouraged her to try bike riding. This has lead Kelsey to participate in cycling competitions ranging from 28km-50km. Kelsey always finds herself feeling healthy and happier when she’s on her bike, even if it’s a simple ride from her home to Lake Wendouree.

Kelsey would love to let other women and girls know….”Find an activity you enjoy. Take it slow and be proud of what you are doing – OWN IT!”
